When you register your vehicle in the state of Florida, you are assigned a Florida license plate. The number on your plate can be used to track the vehicle owner as well as all activity associated with your license plate, including traffic citations and crash records. By default, under the Driver Privacy Protection Act, all information associated with your license plate is protected from the general public. You can unblock your records at any time by submitting a request to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
Visit a local branch of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (www.flhsmv.gov). Advise the department representative that you would like to obtain a record of your Florida tag history. Complete the “Motor Vehicles – Vessels Records Request” form. To complete the form, enter your name and address, along with the year, make, model, license plate number and vehicle identification number, also known as a VIN. In the section labeled “Type of Record Request,” check the “Motor Vehicle” box.

Include the required processing fee. You will receive a copy of your report in the mail within two weeks from the date your request is received and processed.
